1970: Hafez Al-Assad seizes power with a bloodless coup.
1980: Bashar becomes President
2005: Syrian troops, stationed in Lebanon since 1976, withdraw.

Assad employed the American BLJ agency to conduct PR operations in favour of his wife. Assad’s wife appeared in Vogue and the article was called ‘The Rose in the Desert’.
